Best way to begin the day

I was introduced to Wordle sometime early this year by my wife’s brother. It is a 5 letter word game where you have to guess the word in six attempts. It seemed that he couldn’t find anyone else to discuss this game with so he roped in his sister and me. I love word games; my father and I play such games in the newspaper, so I got hooked. My wife also enjoyed the game. Earlier we used to spend the last half an hour of our day on this when we were still trying to understand the tricks of playing the game. Since Wordle is valid only for one day, it is exciting to start some fifteen minutes before midnight and get the right word before the two hands meet in the wall clock or when the digital clock turns to 00:00. He also introduced Wordle2 to us which is a Wordle of 6 letters. Soon I began enjoying Wordle2 more since we got to check the presence of more letters in six attempts due to the longer word size.

Soon my wife stopped playing this game and moved on to better things in life (South Korean shows on Netflix). I continued to play and discuss with her brother. Soon he also moved on. I decided to arrange for new allies and roped in my teammates from the office. They had heard of the game but hadn’t tried it. I explained to them the rules with a few screenshots that I’d taken earlier to discuss with my wife and her brother when we were still new to the game. Now my new allies and I were discussing Wordle daily. Meanwhile, I noticed that some of my friends were sharing screenshots of their Wordle output (without revealing the actual word) on WhatsApp stories, Facebook stories, and Instagram stories.

Soon the craze for this word game reduced and I also lost interest in it. One day my wife’s brother sent me a link to a Wordle of mathematics, Nerdle. One of my teammates sent me a link to Quordle — 4 Wordles in one. I got busy with those upgrades of the humble Wordle. I enjoyed Quordle more than Nerdle and discussed that with my wife’s brother and my teammate. Soon those discussions also stopped.

During the initial days of our Wordle discussions, we often got a few words wrong every month or so. And the most likely reason was the repetition of letters in that word. Repetition of a letter in the final word was something we took time to learn, otherwise, it was easier to understand and play the game, yet interesting enough to spend time on it without getting bored.

Today I play Wordle, Wordle2, or Quordle alone. Quordle continues to be my favorite one among them. But now I have a fixed place and time for it — my potty time in the morning. This time was usually spent scrolling social media mindlessly and sometimes commenting on something that irks me. Instead, I play this game before I begin my day to activate my mind to handle important and critical tasks throughout the day.

You may try the game here, in case you haven’t. It’s fun. Perhaps we could discuss the game by sharing the screenshot of our final result. In case you enjoy this, you can try the other variants too.
