This is quite a detailed explanation of how poetry can impact us in various ways in various aspects of our lives. Have bookmarked it for future reference.

While reading it I was reminded of how I began writing poems in high school, to alleviate boredom and to cope with academic stress, since I had no access to TV and we didn't have a computer or smartphone at home during those days.

Poetry is fun. Firstly it is a short form of writing, so it doesn't need long-term commitment. Secondly it doesn't follow any specific rules anymore and one is free to explore one's writing skills and voice through words that evoke our senses in unknown yet exciting ways.
