This is an interesting point. I too look for low price book copies, so I usually buy used books to read. Fortunately the classics are usually cheaper than the latest books so that work out for me.

Keeping low price point can help get a foot in the door but I think eventually a self published author needs to gradually increase their book price else it will not be sustainable for the author.

Reminds me of how pulp fiction writers wrote relentlessly just to earn enough to live pay check to pay check. Looks like the struggle for new indie writers is similar.
